A REDDITCH drug dealer who was caught in breach of a suspended sentence could be given another chance to escape jail.

Robbie Morton, aged 29, formerly of Drayton Close, admitted possessing cannabis with intent to supply when he appeared at Worcester Crown Court.

He was arrested on August 7 last year - less than four months after he was given an 18 months sentence suspended for 18 months on May 20, when he admitted producing cannabis.

He was also ordered to do 250 hours unpaid work.

Abigail Nixon, defending, said the breach of a suspended sentence would normally mean immediate custody but she asked Judge Nicola Cartwright to take the "unusual" step of ordering a further pre-sentence report.

She said Morton had now moved to live with his mother in South Wales and had distanced himself from previous associates. He had done well in the unpaid work and was now considered as a possible suitable candidate for rehabilitation.

She told the court Morton, now of Tir Yr Hen Ysgol, Bynea, Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, had supplied cannabis to feed his own habit but had now substantially cut down his use.

Judge Cartwright told Morton there was no guarantee he would not be sent to jail but he was prepared to adjourn the case for sentencing until March 1.
