THERE was excitement in Redditch recently when the BBC programme Flog It! came to film at one of Redditch's most valuable historic assets - Forge Mill Needle Museum.

The format for the show is that presenter Paul Martin and his team of experts invite members of the public to bring their antiques to be viewed and valued, with an option to sell at auction.

As part of the programme, Paul also visits places of historic interest in the area where they are filming the valuation, which is why they filmed a section of the programme at Forge Mill.

The museum is an unusual and fascinating place to visit. This historic site illustrates the rich heritage of the needle and fishing tackle industries.

Models and recreated scenes provide a vivid illustration of how needles were once made, and how Redditch once produced an astonishing 90 per cent of the world's needles.

Jo-Ann Gloger, spokesman for the needle museum, said: "We were really pleased that Flog it! came to the museum to film and look at some of our collections and learn how a needle was made in Victorian times.

"Also it was a real eye opener into how much work goes on, not only in front of the camera but also behind the scenes to get everything just right."

A date for the airing of the Forge Mill feature is yet to be confirmed.
