REDDITCH MP Karen Lumley has lent her support to a housing scheme for young vulnerable families, based in Smallwood.

The MP recently visited the Smallwood Almshouses, in Mount Street, an initiative which provides secure accommodation with specially trained support workers to help vulnerable families.

The scheme comprises of 16 self-contained one and two bed flats, and female applicants must be a minimum of six months pregnant with no more than two children of school age.

They must also be aged 16 to 25 and be considered vulnerable, homeless, threatened with homelessness, or seeking to move as part of a resettlement programme.

Mrs Lumley was very impressed with the facilities offered, which includes a community resource hub and creche.

“Schemes such as those run at Smallwood Almshouses are much needed and appreciated and I was delighted to be able to pay them a visit,” she said.

“The residents are obviously thrilled at the facilities and help offered and it was heartening to see how happy they were.”

The scheme aims to maximise residents’ independence, confidence and empower them to access services in the community.
