HUNDREDS of runners will be lacing up their shoes and taking part in a charity race in Alcester at the weekend.

The new SECO Alcester 10km will see 500 runners descend on the course which starts in High Street on Sunday, October 11 at 10am.

The route leaves Alcester along the Stratford Road, turns left to towards Haselor and passes through Walcote, the River Alne and Great Alne before returning to Alcester.

The event has been arranged by Raceways in partnership with Alcester Community Trust which has arranged for street acts and crafts to be held during the morning.

The local council, businesses and Seco Tools, an Alcester-based manufacturer and supplier cutting tools and equipment are supporting the event.

High Street will be closed for the event's duration.

All the profits from the event are being shared equally between Alcester Community Trust and KidsRunFree, a charity which arranges fun, running based activities for children in local parks and schools.
