A WEEKEND of organic farm tours, family fun and local food and drink attracted more than 500 people to The Stables Farm Shop in Astwood Bank last weekend.

The event was held to celebrate the farm land and farm shop butchery at the Stables officially becoming certified as ‘organic’.

As well as tractor and trailer rides and special tours there was activities for the young and not so young such as cute and cuddly encounters, creepy crawly encounters, animal grooming, lamb feeding, a giant sandpit, quiz trail, tractor rides, and more.

There was also live music and a local beer, cider, and wine bar.

Farmer at the Stables Ewan Wallis, 35, gave a talk describing how the organic beef and lamb is produced to high animal welfare standards, without using any chemicals on the land.

He said: “We were delighted by the weather and the great turnout of local people.

“People were interested to hear about our organic farm and how we manage the land to benefit wildlife and grow crops too. They were pleased to find out that they can buy beef and lamb that’s certified organic and produced almost on their doorstep."

Amy Jones, 25, from Redditch, said: “It was great to be able to visit our local countryside and take my son on a trailer ride.

"It was interesting to hear how they produce the organic meat at the Stables. We really enjoyed the day, especially the new welly walk. We’re lucky to have an open farm like this on our doorstep."
