A MAN has been found guilty of stabbing his housemate after a drunken argument in their Redditch home.

32-year-old Lukasz Luszcz had found out by text message that he had lost his job and had spent the rest of the day drinking, Worcester Crown Court was told.

His three housemates in the rented property in Bromsgrove Road joined in and they were sitting in his bedroom when he started to argue with one of them, Mateusz Ferenc, Ian Ball, prosecuting, told the court.

Mr Ferenc was sitting on the bed and Luszcz punched him around the head and knocked him to the floor where he carried on assaulting him.

Mr Ferenc went into the bathroom and Luszcz followed him, telling him to clean up the blood from his wounds.

Luszcz went out and returned with a breadknife which he used to stab Mr Ferenc, puncturing a lung and requiring an emergency life-saving operation at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

Luszcz left the house after the incident at about 10.30pm on February 18 this year and Mr Ferenc at first did not realise how badly he was hurt, the jury heard.

He lay down on the floor and one of his housemates wrapped him in coats and jackets and called an ambulance.

Police cordoned off the house and when Luszcz returned from his trip to buy more beer, he was arrested.

Forensic tests showed he had matching bloodstains on his clothes.

Luszcz, who arrived in this country from Poland several years ago, denied stabbing Mr Ferenc but the jury found him guilty of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Judge Robert Juckes, QC, said it had "come close to attempted murder" and there would be an inevitable prison term when Luszcz returns for sentencing at a later date.

He was remanded in custody.
