YOUNG people across the borough could get more opportunities to get involved in sport and active living thanks to the next round of Sportivate funding.

Sport England’s Sportivate scheme could see up to £375,000 invested in Herefordshire and Worcestershire in the next two years after funding deadlines were extended last year until 2017.

The nationwide Sport England Campaign, delivered in partnership with Sport Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire, is open to Redditch-based sports clubs, schools, colleges and community groups who need help to set up sport and physical activity sessions.

Redditch Borough Council is now urging anyone that delivers or would like to deliver sport and physical activity to apply for the next round of funding which closes on Monday, September 28.

John Godwin, head of leisure services, said: “We have some excellent sports clubs, groups and providers across the borough and this funding could be the helping hand they need to become even better. If you’ve got an idea for expanding a sport or physical activity, there could be funding available to support you so get in touch with our team and see if you’re eligible.”

To receive funding applicants are expected to show how they would provide young people aged 11 to 25 the opportunity to receive between six and eight weeks of sport coaching, with the potential to extend this to three months, as well encouraging ongoing participation.

The funding can be used to help cover the cost of coaches, incentives, equipment, facilities costs and much more.

Find the application form online at redditchbc.gov.uk/sportivate or a hard copy can be sent on request.
