HUNDREDS of people enjoyed a free pop up model railway show in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre.

Organised by members of the Redditch Model Railway Club a number of layouts were recently set up for the show, in an empty shop unit.

Designed as a friendly event where people can find out more about the club, there was the chance to see members operating trains as well as the chance for people to have a go themselves.

Guy Craddock, club secretary, said: "It was a great opportunity for our club members to operate our layouts in an unusual environment in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre and we were really pleased we were able to entertain the hundreds of visitors we had over the weekend."

The Redditch Model Railway Club was formed in 1967 and the club staged its first show nearly fifty years ago in the old Kingfisher Hall, which the shopping centre takes its name from and was demolished many years ago to make way for the Kingfisher Shopping Centre.

Later this month people will have the opportunity to see more layouts and displays at the annual Redditch Model Railway exhibition which takes place on September 19 and 20 at Trinity High School.
