THE daughter of Redditch's very own King of Karaoke who sadly passed away last year will be taking part in a fun run in his memory.

Lisa Rooney, whose father Frank Robinson, credited with first bringing the fun of karaoke to Redditch, will be taking part in the Longbridge Pretty Muddy 5k.

Together with a team of friends, called Frank's Mud Fockers, they will be raising vital cash for UHCW Charity, which cared for Mr Robinson before he died.

Having lived in Church Hill for almost 40 years Mr Robinson, aged 65, passed away peacefully at home from cancer.

Along with partner Phil he brought the first karaoke to Redditch pubs in 1991.

For more than 20 years he shared his love of singing with others and encouraged everyone around him to join in.

The Book and Candle was where he held his first gig, followed by The Kings Arms, The Railway, The Brockhill and The Duck Pond to name just a few.

Having worked at Rover for 27 years he took early retirement aged 50 giving him precious years to enjoy his family and their caravan holidays.

The event, on Saturday, July 18, is a 5k muddy obstacle course where the aim is to show cancer that hell hath no fury like a woman in pink.

Those taking part are encouraged to bring a change of clothes for after and a towel to wipe off the worst of the mud.
