A CELEBRITY cricket match held in the Ragley Estate raised more than £10,000 for charity.

Harry Dyke, aged 19, a fourth generation fishmonger at Hillers Fish Shop, organised the event in aid of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research and the English Schools Cricket Association Under-15 Bunbury festival.

Nine hours of dedicated fundraising took place and more than 500 people attended the event on Sunday, June 14.

The event saw celebrity cricket club, The Bunburys, who have raised more than £17 million for charity, beat Mr Dyke’s team called Harry the Fish XI.

Mr Dyke, said that despite the loss they had still raised a huge amount of money for the charity and he would remember the day for the rest of his life.

He added: “It felt phenomenal when the final total was announced and that eight months of hard work had paid off, and I thank everybody that turned up on the day to show their support.

“A huge thank you must also go to our sponsors Hillers, Ragley and Space Graphic Solutions, and to Lord and Lady Hertford, who let us play on their wonderful ground.”

He was motivated to raise the money because of his passion for cricket and in memory of his grandmother who died from leukaemia.

The Bunburys founder, Dr David English CBE, said the day that it was one of the best Bunbury days that they have ever had and the event was also praised by Midlands Today presenter Nick Owen who described it as fantastic, wonderful and memorable.

The match also saw a new Guinness World Record for the longest bowling run-up in a cricket game.

The 1.6 mile record set by Jason Rawson in Blackburn was beaten by Ian Biddle who ran two miles from Alcester Town Hall to Ragley Estate to deliver the opening ball at a charity cricket match.

A highlight of the game was when Worcestershire fast bowler Mr Dyke’s team captain Chris Whelan hit four sixes in a row.

During the charity auction an iPad was sold for more than £1,700 and the Barry Gibb signed guitar, which was donated by former Bee Gees manager David English for the auction, was given to Mr Dyke.

English Schools Cricket Association Under-15 Bunbury festival will be held at Malvern College from July 27 to 31.
