PLANS to create a cultural hub in Alcester’s Globe House on Priority Road have been given the go ahead by councillors.

The decision made at a Warwickshire County Council meeting held on Tuesday, May 19 will mean the present library will relocate to the hub, which is on the same street, after alterations have been carried out.

The old library building will be sold with the proceeds generated used to fund its new set up at Globe House.

Warwickshire County Councillor and Alcester Town Councillor Mike Gittus said: "This has been a long haul and there have been many practical and physical hurdles to overcome.

"The delays in moving forward have been caused by the sheer number of agencies involved and their needs and requirements within the building.

"The provision has been non-political with support from all parties and the entire community.

"I congratulate all the people involved in bringing this scheme to a positive conclusion, in particular officers and members of Alcester Town Council, Stratford District Council and Warwickshire County Council."

He added that the hub would help secure the future of library services, preserve the Alcester Roman Museum and give Alcester Town Council a secure base whilst also maintaining for the future of Warwickshire Direct, police reporting services and all the voluntary services presently occupying the premises.
