A CAR driver switched off his lights in a night-time chase around Redditch in a vain attempt to avoid police, Worcester Crown Court was told.
Jason Mohammed drove through pedestrian walk-ways when cornered in a cul-de-sac and also went along a cycle path, said Gareth Walters, prosecuting.
Two policemen eventually found the car abandoned and Mohammed hiding under a hedge.
Mohammed, aged 35, of Hereford Close in Rednal, pleaded guilty to driving dangerously, without insurance and whilst disqualified.
He was jailed for 12 months and disqualified from driving for 18 months.
Judge Toby Hooper QC said it was appalling driving at night when pedestrians could have been put at risk.
Mohammed had eight previous convictions for driving offences.
