Staff at one of the last Kidderminster youth centres have been handed their redundancy notices as it prepares to close at the end of next month.

Having been running The Y Centre, in Dowles Road, since 2005, the YMCA will be leaving in May because they were unable to get anymore funding from Worcestershire County Council.

Centre manager Nina Price, who has working at the centre for 10 years, said she will be sad to be leaving.

Tqo people were taken to hospital following a head on collision, which closed the Stourbridge Road in Bromsgrove during yesterday morning’s (Thursday, April 17) rush hour.

The collision occured just before 9am, just north of the junction with Broad Street when a blue Volkswagen Polo was in collision with a white Vauxhall.

Hereford and Worcester fire crews attended the scene, extricating a man in his 60s from one of the cars almost immediately, and then working to free a woman who had become trapped in the other car.

Redditch firefighters have been promoting water safety and drowning prevention following the first anniversary of teen Richard Fellows’ death.

The campaign is being run in conjunction with the Chief Fire Officers Association’s Drowning Prevention and Water Safety Week.

The 15-year old died after swimming with friends in Paper Mill Weir in Arrow Valley Country Park on March 16 last year. During the incident, two other teenage boys were rescued and treated for minor injuries.

Police discovered a cannabis factory after a burglary was reported at a commercial unit in Halesowen.

But the raid has resulted in the electricity supply being disconnected at the multi-occupancy premises, while police dismantle the operation – which could affect companies for 10 days.

About 600 plants were recovered from a unit in Hereward Rise on Tuesday.
