A PRISONER on the run from a Worcestershire prison for almost three weeks has been caught.

Anthony Robinson was serving a four-and-a-half year sentence at HMP Hewell, near Redditch, when he escaped custody on Sunday, March 29.

Mark Soper, prosecuting, said prison guards noticed the 36-year-old was missing when they did a roll call at around 5.20am and he was not in attendance.

He said: "He'd been sentenced to four-and-a-half years which he was serving at Hewell. He was in the open part of the prison and was found to be missing. His earliest release date was April 5 next year.

"A roll call was done in the morning and that's when he was found to be missing."

Robinson, who in prison for burglary, possession of heroin, possession of counterfeit currency, and theft, was found in Nuneaton on Wednesday, April 15. He was said to give full and frank admissions to escaping the prison and did have a reason which was not given in court.

Robinson appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday, April 16, in front of chairman of the magistrates Morris Lashford who sent the case to Worcester Crown Court. The offender was denied bail on the ground he is a current serving prisoner and will appear in court again on June 1.
