A REDDITCH nurse beat the odds to attend the historic re-interment of King Richard III at Leicester Cathedral.

Adele Lee was one of 14,000 people from around the world who took part in an online ballot to win one of the 200 seats made available to members of the public.

“I couldn’t believe it when I heard my application had been successful – but when the official invitation dropped through the letterbox I was really delighted,” said Adele, who works as a nurse at a GP surgery in Headless Cross.

Adele, an avid reader of literature surrounding the life and times of Richard III, added: “ I felt honoured to be part of a unique event – both historic and memorable – that had captured the interest of millions of people around the globe.”

About 700 people attended the cathedral service, including the Countess of Wessex and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, who represented the Queen.

The Plantagenet monarch was the last king of England to die in battle, having been slain during the Battle of Bosworth in 1485, aged 32.
