A YOUNG fishmonger from Dunnington near Alcester is arranging a celebrity charity cricket match at Ragley Hall in a bid to raise thousands for good causes.

Harry Dyke, aged 19, a fourth generation fishmonger at Hillers Fish Shop, is aiming to raise £20,000 for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research and the English Schools Cricket Association Under-15 Bunbury festival.

The event will see the biggest celebrity cricket club in the world, The Bunburys, who have raised more than £17 million for charity, compete against Mr Dyke’s team called Harry the Fish XI on Sunday, June 14.

Mr Dyke said he was motivated to raise the money for the charity as his grandmother had died from leukaemia and because it is the most common form of cancer in children.

He added: "I just like to do my part for the community. I just want to be a charitable type of person, I enjoy it. It is something I have always wanted to do.

"I have always been passionate about cricket and I was absolutely delighted to have been asked by Dr David English to arrange this event.

"I would like to thank Lord and Lady Hertford and Ragley Cricket Club for letting us use their beautiful cricket ground."

Dr David English, founder of the Bunburys, said: "The Bunburys can't wait to come to Ragley Hall to take on the might of the Harry the fish XI."

Alongside the match, there will also be an auction and items already donated include commemorative bronze and silver 1970 football World Cup coins given by the Evesham Hotel and a signed Barry Gibb guitar and England cricket bat from Dr English, who is also the former manager of the pop group the Bee Gees.

Mr Dyke’s team includes Twenty20 England Cricket World Cup winner Ryan Sidebottom, former Aston Villa player and TV pundit Paul Merson and former Worcestershire bowler and former Stratford-upon-Avon Cricket Club captain Chris Whelan and further members are yet to be announced.

The Bubury players will include the Weasley twins from Harry Potter, James and Oliver Phelps, and former England and Worcestershire opening batsman David Smith.

Last year Mr Dyke held a competition to guess the weight of a huge five-and-a-half foot long halibut which raised £250 for the Abbots Morton Bell Tower Appeal.

VIP tickets cost £85 and include lunch, champagne and canapes. For more information or to book call Harry Dyke on 01789 491955, email hazerhd@gmail.com or visit the website at www.bunburyragleycricket.com.
