STEPS pop star and actress Faye Tozer is set to take to the stage in Redditch’s Palace Theatre for the cheeky and highly amusing 69 Shades of Black.

The show, which takes its inspiration from 50 shades of Grey, the erotic romance novel by British author E L James, twists comedy and role reversal into the plot as Christian Grey becomes Christina Black.

Far removed from her squeaky clean image in the all singing and dancing Steps, Faye, was rather shocked when she first came into contact with the show.

She said: "I blushed when I read the script the first time. We have toned it down a little.

"We aim to shock a little.

"69 shades of black, it is kind of taken to the extreme, it is a quite silly, comedy it is just to laugh about.

"It is not a family show."

Faye said she hasn’t seen the new film of 50 Shades of Grey, as a group of her girlfriends had gone to see it whilst she was still on holiday, but she had read the book whilst on the Ultimate Steps reunion tour.

The title had been passed around, and members of Steps had been reading passages aloud.

She explained that she is expecting groups of women to attend the show and maybe some men, who may have been persuaded by their wives or girlfriends.

Faye plays the strong and successful business woman, Christina Black, company director of an advertising agency. In in light of the powerful female character the Advertiser asked if she defines herself as a feminist.

She said: "People, I think, mistake what feminism is. I see myself as equal as a male so in that way I am."

Currently Steps are on hiatus, with no immediate plans for a reboot.

"We have to all be in the right place.

"As you grow up you become calmer, I don't know if it's the same for H," She giggles.

"The heart of Steps is still there.

We still have our hardcore fans and they bring along their children."

Faye has also starred in several theatre productions including Me and My Girl UK Tour, Sheila Wendice in Dial M for Murder UK Tour, Eva Cassidy in Over The Rainbow and Annie in Rhinestone Mondays.

Whilst performing in Me and My Girl, Faye was taught how to play the spoons, a talent which comes in handy even now.

When she visited fellow Steps star Lisa Scott-Lee at her home in Dubai, she spend time teaching her daughter how to play them.
