A NUMBER of protests are being held following last week's shock news that the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch had been hit by the resignations of the entire accident and emergency consultant team.

The Advertiser reported that the future of Alex was hanging in the balance following the shock resignations of all four senior emergency department consultants at the hospital, and another from the Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

Members of the Save the Alex Campaign are holding a "no confidence" protest tomorrow Wednesday, February 25, at Kidderminster Treatment Centre.

It is set to take place ahead of Worcestershire Acute Hospital NHS Trust’s public board meeting and will start at 9.30am.

Chairman of Save the Alex campaign said that the protest would act as a sign to board members of the lack of faith in the senior management.

A new organisation, Betrayed By Their Trust (BBTT), has been formed to campaign against the bullying of NHS staff in Worcestershire.

Started by Nigel Gilbert, the aim of the organisation is to act as a mutual support group.

Any past or present NHS staff member who has suffered bullying is being urged to get in touch.

The group is holding a protest at the Alex Hospital in Redditch, also tomorrow, starting at 12.30pm.

Mr Gilbert, who welcomed a recent announcement of an inquiry into bullying in the county's hospitals, said: “We are very pleased that the revelations by BBTT member, Mandy Bridgman, of the bullying of frontline staff at Redditch's Alex Hospital's A&E has apparently produced such a dramatic early result.

“But this inquiry must not be used simply as a distraction to the fundamental financial problems at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. We share the concerns of the Save the Alex Campaign that if we are not careful, this will be the real function of the inquiry.”
