THE family of a little girl who is fighting a brain tumour are raising money to help make her Disney dream come true.

Redditch mum Liz Bishop was “devastated” when she found out her daughter Lily-mai, aged three, was suffering from a brain tumour.

Lily-mai’s life changed forever on July 15, 2014 when she was rushed to hospital after she fell cruising and banged her head.

She began vomiting and become drowsy and Liz, thinking she may be concussed, called the NHS 111 helpline.

After reaching the hospital and a having a CT scan, to rule out any bleeds on the brain, they found a brain tumour the size of a tangerine.

Lily-mai had an eight-hour operation to take out the tumour on July 18, but they could not remove it all as it was attached to the brain cortex and a further MRI scan showed another piece still remained. Liz was told that Lily-mai’s tumour was cancerous on July 25.

Liz decided to set up a fundraising page with a target of £5,000 to try to give her daughter what every princess deserves, a magical trip to Disney World in Florida.

She said: “I only started it a couple of months ago. When I started it I didn’t think we would get anything. I am overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity.

“It’s nice to know people do care.

“There are a lot of people on there that I don’t know personally. She has a Facebook page with 1,000 followers; I’ve only got about 400 friends on there.

“I think it’s lovely.”

The trip will take Lily-Mai, her mum and dad and also her siblings Blake, aged ten, and Chloe,14, on holiday to America, helping them to make happy memories as Lily-Mai's chances of survival are unknown.

Her treatment includes regular MRI scans, weekly blood draws, blood and platelet transfusions, check-ups as well as a shunt which helps stop the fluid building up on her brain. She is now undergoing an intensive course of chemotherapy over 72 weeks.

Lily-mai was also born with an unknown condition which means she is unable to walk unaided, crawl, bum shuffle or speak words.

On Monday, February 21, a tea and coffee morning will be held at the Space in the Winyates Centre where vistors will  be invited to take part in several activities including a raffle, guess the teddy's name or guess how many sweets are in the jar.

During the event, a group of ladies from Winyates will cycle the distance between Redditch and Florida on exercise bikes.
