A REDDITCH hypnotherapist was interviewed by presenter Jonathan Ross on whether a dog could hypnotise someone after Simon Cowell reportedly collapsed from being hypnotised by a dog on Britain’s Got Talent.

Mark Powlett, who has a practice in Berkeley Close, spoke about the unusual event during a BBC Radio 2 show.

It was claimed that during auditions on the talent show, Mr Cowell had looked into the eyes of a German Spitz named Princess and was hypnotised into a trance.

He then told his fellow judges, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams, that he felt unwell and after the cameras stopped rolling he slumped over desk and woke up a few minutes later.

Mr Powlett said: “I’m used to talking about hypnotherapy as I lecture medical students and already give talks about the power of the mind but I never imagined I would be speaking to Jonathan Ross on Radio 2 about a dog who could hypnotise a TV judge.

“The truth about stage hypnosis is that it is all about people playing along with the joke, whereas hypnosis itself is just a relaxing state which we all drift in and out of many times during the day quite naturally.”

During the interview, Mr Ross said that he believed his dog could hypnotise him to give him steak from his plate.

Mr Powlett explained that all a real hypnotherapist really does is teach people to relax and let go and offered Jonathan the chance to try it for himself.

He added: “Jonathan laughed off the idea on air but let’s wait and see what happens in the future.”
