REDDITCH Lions Club recently had a stand in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre for the day to promote the club within the community and to make a presentation to two charities.

The presentation cheques totalling £3,030 were split equally between the Alexandra Hospital's 'Rory the Robot' fund and Prostate Cancer UK.

The money was raised from last September's fun run around Arrow Valley Lake.

The run was the first that the Lions had organised, but aim to make it a community event. This year's run will take place on Sunday, September around Arrow Valley Lake. More details will be published later on in the year and will include information on how to obtain sponsorship and donate on line.

A club spokesman said: "It is events such as this that Redditch Lions hope will appeal to people and make them become interested in what the club does within the local community and, perhaps, becoming members.

"The club gives members an opportunity to advance worthy causes, serve with friends, and become leaders in the community.

"The club means a lot to it's members, but also so much more to the people that it serves.

"The Lions’ motto is 'We Serve' and Redditch Lions has lived up to it. For 43 years the club has provided individual assistance to many citizens, supported local organisations, made numerous contributions to local charities, participated in fun days, duck races and electronic clay shoots at numerous events."

The Lions organisation has 1.35 million members globally in more than 46,000 clubs, serving communities in 207 countries and geographical areas around the globe.

Since 1917, clubs have aided the blind and visually impaired, championed youth initiatives and strengthened local communities through hands-on service and humanitarian projects.
