A MEETING to establish the requirements of a new project to help Syrian refugees is being held on Wednesday, January 28 in Alcester Town Hall.

Frank Wood and David Strickland-Eales are aiming to organise the initiative to help children who have had to flee from Syria due to fighting and unrest.

Mr Wood said: “A lot of children are not getting an education, I just wanted to do something.”

He added that he hopes to get residents from Alcester involved in the project but would also like to hear from Redditch people as well.

Two representatives from Open Doors, an international ministry supporting persecuted Christians and churches will be speaking during the event and this includes the organisations' UK director Andy Worthington.

The project aims to work with the Open Doors to identify where the help is most needed, establish how best to deliver help, set in place a programme to raise funds, to equip local people on the ground to deliver the funds and report back on the needs, successes and progress. They also hope to help Muslim children as well as Christian.

Residents are invited to attend the meeting, which will be taking place from 7.30pm.

Those interested in assisting the project will be asked to leave a contact number and email.
