ACORNS Children’s Hospice in Birmingham is set to benefit thanks to a generous donation of £2,500 from Warwickshire Freemasons.

The donation came on behalf of the Freemasons’ Grand Charity.

John Hayward, Provincial Grand Charity Steward paid a visit to Acorns hospice in Selly Oak to see first-hand how the money will benefit the charity’s work with life-limited and life-threatened children and young people.

Mr Hayward said: “Charity is a cornerstone of Freemasonry and I am delighted we can support Acorns and the wonderful work they do. The care, compassion and support the charity provides is outstanding and Freemasons in Warwickshire are proud to be able to show our continuing dedication to their cause.”

Chris Reed, head of care at Acorns, said: “We are delighted to receive this generous donation. We rely on fundraising and donations from local people and organisations for the majority of the income needed to provide our services.

"The donation will make a real difference to people’s lives by helping us provide nursing care for children and young people and vital support for their families, across Birmingham and Warwickshire."

The money comes as part of over £600,000 distributed nationally to adult and children’s hospices by the Freemasons’ Grand Charity. The Grand Charity gives an annual grant to 240 hospices in England and Wales. Since 1984, the Charity has donated more than £10 million in support of hospices.
