THERE will be a slight air of sadness to Redditch fires station's annual fireworks show and bonfire on Wednesday, November 5, as it is to be the last one for what could be several years.

The land next to the station, which has been used by the fire service for the event for decades, has been sold for housing, so this will be the last year of the popular event on its present site.

A spokesman said there were plans to relocate the fire station at some point in future so it may be possible to hold the annual event on the new site.

But organisers are determined that is should also be a fun event, and have even arranged for a few special "farewell fireworks" at the end of the evening, to show their appreciation to the generations of Redditch people who turn out to enjoy the event and show their support.

The cost of the event is £4 for adults and £2 for children. The doors open at 6pm, and the bonfire will be lit at 7.30pm, before the main fireworks display at 7.45pm.

There will be children's rides, delicious hot food, and the chance to meet Redditch Young Firefighters.

Bob Morris, from Redditch Fire Station, who has organised the event for more than 35 years, said: "It will be a slightly sad event this year as it will be our last one here, but we still want it to be a whole lot of fun.

"We want to express our thanks to all those people, generations and generations of them, who have come along year after year to show their support. They have made the event the huge success it has been."
