AN archaeology day with talks, displays and interactive workshops is being held at Warwick School on Saturday, October 25 between 10 am and 4.30 pm.

The event will focus on the theme of Anglo-Saxon Warwickshire and will include aerial photography, historic maps, archaeological surveying and archaeological finds.

Professor John Blair of Oxford University will be attending the event and he will conduct his talk called Power and Display in a Changing World.

In an extract, Professor Blair said: “Although Warwickshire is not necessarily renowned for its Anglo-Saxon archaeology, actually there are some very important and interesting sites within the county that can bring new information and new perspectives to light from this dark age.”

Dr David Freke and Kevin Watson will give talks on the archaeological excavations at Warmington and Broadwell.

A ‘Show and Tell’ hall will also feature displays from local history, archaeology and other community groups.

Ben Wallace, Warwickshire County Council’s Historic Environment Record manager and co-organiser of the event, said: “In what has rapidly become an established annual event we have an exciting line up this year with some fantastic speakers and fascinating archaeological sites but also for the first time the chance to participate in some hands on practical workshops.”

Tickets cost £15 and can be booked in advance by visiting St John’s Museum, Market Hall Museum or Warwickshire County Record Office.

Or guests can call 01926 412132, 01926 412501 or 01926 738959. Tea and coffee will be provided and free parking is available.

Visitors should bring their own lunch.
