VOLUNTARY and community work taking place in Redditch will once again be supported by £241,000 of borough council grant funding for 2015/16.

Current grant funding enables voluntary and community sector organisations to bid for funding to support projects and initiatives that help deliver services to the local community.

The categories for the grants scheme have changed slightly this year to place them more in line with meeting the council’s new strategic purposes.

The categories for the 2015/16 grant program are: help me to be financially independent (previously Independent Communities); help me to live my life independently (previously Community Development); provide me with good things to do, see and visit (previously Thriving Communities); keep my place safe and looking good (previously Community Welfare), and stronger communities.

Councillor Bill Hartnett, council leader, said: “Whilst the categories may have changed this year, the purpose remains the same, ensuring community groups have a source of local funding which is accessible and easy to apply for.

"If you are part of a local voluntary or community sector organisation and think you could help the local community please get in touch. No idea is too big or small.”

The scheme opened for bids on Wednesday, October 1 and closes again at 4pm on Friday, November 7.
