A GROUP of 50 Brownies and Rainbows from Studley district took an afternoon trip to India to take part in the Midlands Art Explosion challenge Go Global.

Girls investigated the rich and diverse culture of India making exotic elephants from milk bottles. They prepared for an Indian wedding making jewellery and henna designs, together with dressing in traditional Indian dresses richly embroidered and in bright colours.

Girls sampled Indian foods and tried to name the ingredients and spices. They made India flags and had a quiz game on Indian facts and learnt about the World Guide Centre Sangam in Pune near Mubai. They also played Indian games and sang friendship songs.

Workshops of Bangra dancing were held throughout the event and culminated in a demonstration for parents.

Caroline Ford, Brownie Guider, said: "We are a diverse country and is essential that we respect each other's cultures and beliefs. We all had a fabulous trip to India. Thank you to all the volunteers for making it happen."

Studley is currently requiring more adult volunteers to join Girlguiding to take on leadership roles. Register at girlguiding.org.uk/interested.
