A VAST array of home-grown produce was proudly displayed at this year’s Alcester Flower and Vegetable Show.

The event, which ran in conjunction with the Court Leet’s Family Fun Day, took place on Saturday, September 6 between 1pm and 4pm at the Alcester Scout Hut in Moorfield Road.

Show secretary Sue Goode said: “It was actually the most people we have had as visitor numbers were up and it was good news for us with several new exhibitors showing off their produce.”

Participants competed for a cash prize and one of the 26 cups which were awarded for various categories.

The Court Leet held a traditional village fete with a variety of entertainment including traditional games, a penny arcade, fair organ, a ‘keepie uppie’ competition, a barbecue, face painting and an ale and cider stall for adults.

Mickey and Minnie Mouse attended the Court Leet fundraiser which made around £500 for the High Bailiff’s Fund.

The Alcester Scouts and Alcester Cadets raised money at the event for various good causes.

All other proceeds will go into the fund to be distributed around local charities and organisations in October.

Alison Brown, Alcester town councillor and the High Bailiff’s lady, said: “It was a very successful day we had a lot of people there. All the children seemed to enjoy it.”

In preparation for the fundraiser Alcester Court Leet arranged for Mickey and Minnie Mouse to meet and greet children in the town on Saturday, August 30.

Alcester Flower and Vegetable Show is held annually on the first Saturday of September.
