FOLLOWING the departure of Freddie Miller, their accompanist for the last two years, local choir The Bel Canto Singers are delighted to welcome Wendy Quirk as their new pianist.

Wendy is a violinist with the CBSO and also an accomplished pianist.

“We had some excellent musicians apply for the position,” said Polly Speers, the chair of The Bel Canto Singers. "We’re thrilled that Wendy will be joining us; her knowledge, enthusiasm and, not least, her ability will help us to develop further as a choir."

Wendy said she was really looking forward to playing with the choir as for some time she had wanted to do something that was more community-based. Furthermore, she liked the choir’s varied mix of popular songs and choral music.

The choir is giving a concert at Cookhill Village Hall on Saturday, September 13 to commemorate the start of the First World War and Wendy will be accompanying the choir.

The first half will contain more reflective and solemn music and the second half will be livelier, reflecting a message of hope and peace.

The concert will be raising money for the charity Help the Heroes. Tickets are still available and can be reserved by calling 01527 69122.
