ALCESTER gardening club recently received a talk on growing and storing their own vegetables.

Keith Ferguson spoke from his lifelong experience of vegetable growing which has led him to decide what to grow on the basis of the labour needed, the time it will take the crops to grow, the success rate and the effectiveness of each crop.

He advised club members to not growing something which they either do not enjoying eating or can buy for a small amount in supermarkets.

Another tip was to only grow a few of each crop at one time rather than many as they may be wasted.

On Thursday, September 4 the club will be visited by Paul Moir from the Painswick Rococo Garden who will give a talk on the History and Restoration of a Regency Playground.

All members and guest are welcome to attend.

The club will also take an autumn trip to Batsford on Sunday, October, 26 which can now be booked.

Alcester Gardening Club indoor meetings are held at the Jubilee Court Centre, St Faiths Road, Alcester. Guests are welcome.

Membership for the rest of 2014 is £5 which includes free talks, refreshments and subsidised trips.
