MORE than £4,499 was raised during Ragley Hall Battle Proms in aid of The Veterans’ Mental Health Charity, Combat Stress.

The money was donated by the excess of 6,000 people who attended the event on Saturday, August 16.

For the last four years, the proms event has raised funds for the charity which helps veterans of the Armed Forces and Merchant Navy with psychological injuries caused through service to their country.

Volunteer and community fundraising assistant Ellie Hall said: “We are delighted to be working with the Battle Proms again and to date have raised over £182,000 at various concerts over the years. We would like to offer our sincere thanks to the generous Ragley Hall Battle Prommers, many of whom attend year on year and never fail to surprise us with their generosity.”

To mark the centenary an expert cavalry troop performed a mounted skill-at-arms display and the proms signature piece – Beethoven’s Battle Symphony was performed with 193 live firing cannon.

The event also included a choreographed Spitfire to Gustav Holst’s Jupiter, performed by the New English Concert Orchestra and conducted by Douglas Coombes.

The next Battle Proms will be held at Ragley Hall on Saturday, August 16 2015.
