A REDDITCH chippy is in the race to be crowned regional Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year at the 2015 National Fish and Chip Awards.
Winyates Chippy, part of the top 60 shortlisted across the UK, will now compete against several other shops to become the Midlands’ regional winner, placing them in competition to bag the ultimate title.
To reach this stage of the prestigious competition the shop had to fry at the top of its game to secure a place.
It was judged by industry experts and even visited by a mystery diner.
Organised by Seafish, the authority on seafood, the top 10 regional shops will be announced in October.
The British champion will then be announced in London next January.
Paul Williams, chief executive of Seafish, said: “These awards have not only improved the industry standards by consistently rewarding and testing businesses, they have also raised positive awareness of the issues surrounding sustainable fishing practices and encouraged shops to implement sustainable sourcing."
