AN evening of comedy organised by Redditch Council’s mayor is set to raise the roof – and cash for charity

Councillor Pat Witherspoon is hosting a ‘Ship of Fools’, a performance which pulls together the best bits of the locally renowned Stand Upstairs series.

Compered by Ant Hill, the event will raise money for the mayor’s charities, which are Friends of Redditch and the borough’s Mental Health Action Group (MHAG), as well as publicising the subject of mental health.

Coun Witherspoon said: “Mental health is a subject which is often taboo but I want to raise the profile of the subject.

“It’s important we realise how it affects many people within our community including those who have dementia, anxiety and other illnesses but also the impact it has on their family and friends.

Comedians lined up to deliver laughs on the night include Sheila McMohan who has appeared on the BBC and Sky 1, English Comedian of the Year 2014 Jack Campbell, and Hashtag Funny 2013 winner Jack Kirwan.

They will also be joined by Glee Club New Act of the Year 2001 Dave Dinsdale and Kent comedian El Baldiniho known for appearances on John Bishop’s Britain and Roy Chubby Brown’s Who Ate All The Pies series.

The show, which may contain adult humour and the line-up is subject to change, will take place a the Palace Theatre in Alcester Street on Tuesday , September 9 at 7.30pm
