AN 18-year-old from Redditch, who has acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, is raising money for Cure Leukaemia by completing her first driving sprint around Curborough racetrack in Staffordshire.

Brooke Evans has always been passionate about cars as her father Simon owns an independent Porsche business in Redditch and this sponsored sprint will be her first chance to take a car around a prestigious racetrack.

She will take part in the final round of the Shenstone & District Car Club’s Curborough Speed Championship, racing in the modified production over two-litre class.

To raise funds in the middle of Blood Cancer Awareness Month, companies are being invited to donate £100 to sponsor Brooke’s car and have their logo printed on the bodywork of the Porsche 944 S2.

Entrance on Sunday, September 14 is free and people are also being invited to enter a raffle to win a bottle of champagne and sign the car itself. Each raffle ticket costs £5.

Brooke has played a key part in helping Cure Leukaemia raise awareness for the campaign “Birmingham, lets cure leukaemia.” Adverts featuring Brooke have been visible on digital video screens on the M6 provided by charity partner Elonex Outdoor Media.

The campaign, in collaboration with the University of Birmingham, aims to help the city find a cure for all blood cancer within 30 years, and adverts encouraging the West Midlands public to run for Cure Leukaemia in the Bupa Great Birmingham run will be visible across the region in the coming months.

Brooke is receiving support and treatment for her disease as part of a clinical trial which is delivered through the clinical trials unit at the Centre for Clinical Haematology and the University of Birmingham.

Brooke said: “I can’t wait to do my first sprint around Curborough. I would have done it a long time ago but unfortunately my illness prevented me from driving. I love cars and I love driving so to combine that with raising money for the charity that has done so much for me will be very special. I urge everyone to come along and take part in the event and help raise money for Cure Leukaemia so that they can help more people just like they helped me.”

Brooke’s father Simon said, “I’d like to thank everyone who is helping make Brooke’s Sprint For Life possible. It will be a very special day for Brooke and all our family and friends and hopefully we can raise lots of money for Cure Leukaemia.”

James McLaughlin, chief executive of Cure Leukaemia said, “Brooke has been instrumental in helping Cure Leukaemia communicate its message to the region in recent months. I’m delighted she is organising this fundraising event for us and I

hope she has a fantastic driving experience as well.”
