NORTH East Worcestershire Ravens Rugby League has received a lifesaving defibrillator from Redditch Heart Safe.

The league is based at Hopwood Park, home of Kings Norton RUFC.

When they first moved to the park, organisers of the Ravens realised there was a need for a defibrillator for player and supporter safety.

After investigating the matter, they were lead to Redditch Heart Safe, a charity that raises money to purchase and install defibrillators for places which need them.

The charity was started by Robert and Maggie Underwood following the death of their daughter Charlotte Marie in 2010 from Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS).

After considering the request, the charity decided that N.E.W Ravens RL should have a defibrillator and kindly donated one, for use by the Ravens and Kings Norton RUFC.

A spokesman said: "N.E.W Ravens RL is extremely grateful for this gesture and will be holding a charity family fun day on Sunday, August 10 from 11am at Hopwood Park, Ash Lane in order to raise awareness and funds for this very worthy local charity."

At the event there will be a rugby target game, a raffle, bouncy castle, ice cream van, face painting, soft archery, stalls, a fully licensed bar, and much more.

It is free entry and there will also be free parking.

People who wish to have a stall at the fun event can call Gail on 07515 020844.
