The Church of the Holy Ascension located at the bottom of Gorcott Hill (A435) was commissioned and financed by Sir William Jaffray Bart of Skilts. Built in memory of his first wife Mabel, the church was initially opened on Wednesday, July 11, 1888.

There is free admission and car parking available, including special areas for blue badge holders.

Mark Crompton, fete co-ordinator and Linda Salsbury, secretary for this year’s church summer fete fundraising committee, said: “We are so grateful to the companies who have donated, individuals and congregation who have offered to help with supporting and setting up this year’s event.

"We just now hope for a little sunshine and lots of people to turn up on the day. This is also a chance for the local community to see the beauty within this church building and its grounds.”
