Tolkien magic at Tudor Grange Academy
Updated 12:43pm Tuesday 8th July 2014 in News
AS part of Tudor Grange Academy’s drive to improve literacy, and engender a love of reading in all students, the school embraced the works of the author JRR Tolkien on July 4.
Lessons were themed to connect to Tolkien’s works, including the baking of ‘Hobbit feet’ biscuits in a German lesson.
Staff dressed up as the characters from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, much to the delight of the students and author Robert Rigby came to the school to run workshops on creative writing with years nine and 10 students.
Helen Burton, assistant headteacher said: “Bringing the creative worlds of fiction to life is such an important thing for us to do. One of the real pleasures of reading is being transported to another world where you can explore different perspectives.
" A big thank you to the staff who once more went out of their way to find some truly spectacular costumes, and to bring the world of classic literature alive at Tudor Grange."
