ALCESTER travelled back in time for a Roman festival which celebrated the town’s ancient history.
The event marks the tenth anniversary of the town’s museum opening and is the first of its kind in the area for around 1,700 years.
Hundreds attended the event which included Roman re-enactors, displays, children’s competitions and a parade along Alcester High Street.
Re-enactors conducted demonstrations of the battlefield and Roman crafts took place in the Scout Hut off High Street.
Laurence Thatcher, chairman of the Alcester Heritage Trust, which runs the Roman Alcester Museum, said: “The event was a great success and I would like to thank all of the members of the chamber of commerce who helped make it such a wonderful event.
“The plan was to thank the local people for the support they have given us.”
People came from all over the country to attend the event including one re-enactor who travelled seven and a half hours from Glasgow in Scotland.
On Sunday 50 people took part in a Roman walk around the town.
The highlight of the weekend took place in Alcester Town Hall with keynote speaker Author Lindsey Davis conducting a presentation about her character Falco, a Roman detective.
