A KIDDERMINSTER hairdressing business has been named the country’s best regional salon in the Hair Magazine Awards 2014.

Lisa Shepherd, in Mill Street, which was set up in the town 12 years ago, was given the award in recognition of its community engagement and its new Color Bar service.

It was praised for various fundraising and community activities, such as its Red Nose Day work, tea and cake drop-ins, styling for fashion shows and setting up pop-up styling bars.

The salon has raised money for various charities, including Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer, Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Katie Piper Foundation, which gives help to people with severe burns and scars.

Lisa Shepherd, salon director, said: “It’s fantastic to receive the best UK regional salon accolade and know that what we’re offering in Kidderminster is the best in the country.

“Hair is so much more than a service in the salon. We’ve really enjoyed getting out and about offering our expertise to help others.

“Wherever it’s done, hair makes people feel amazing.”

Ms Shepherd has also been named as a business director of the year finalist at the Most Wanted Awards run by Creative Head Magazine.

The Color Bar service has also been nominated at the awards in the innovation of the year category.

The new service has the slogan We Dye, You Dry, with customers receiving hair colouring from the salon before blow drying and styling their hair themselves to keep costs down.

The Most Wanted Awards will take place on Monday, September 1, at the Tate Modern in London and will be hosted by comedian Jack Whitehall.

Ms Shepherd said: “I’m over the moon to be up for business director and business innovation.

“I wanted to shout about the amazing Color Bar concept and show how innovative ideas really work and are great for improving business.”
