A REDDITCH woman is trying to raise £10,000 for sufferers of Alzheimer's Disease.

Hannah Malins is raising money for patients suffering from the disease on the Clent Ward at New Haven Unit at the Princess of Wales Community Hospital in Bromsgrove.

Her grandfather, Freddy Brown, former chairman of forklift truck maker Translift Bendi, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2007 and recently took a turn for the worse meaning he is no longer able to live at home and is based at the unit.

Speaking about the decision to raise the cash, Hannah said: "My grandpa is like a father to me. He has been there and supported me, taught me to run rather than walk to get things done.

"It is heart breaking seeing him on his bad days. He would be so proud of me for fundraising, so if i can help just 10 people that would make me extremely happy.

A special coffee morning has been organised which includes a pig roast as well as a host of hot and cold refreshments.

The aim is to raise enough to help occupy patients who are suffering with the disease by ordering a year's supply of newspapers, puzzles, books and DVDs as well as providing activities and occupational therapy.

Hannah added: "We would love to raise as much as we can as we're now becoming to understand this horrid disease and how much the money raised can help and support patients, family and friends."

The coffee morning is at Bendi visitors centre, Unit 53 Padgets lane, South Moons Moat, this Friday, June 27 from 10am.

A charity fun day is also being held at Ferndown Woodlands near Evesham on July 26.
