A PROJECT to revamp hospitals in Worcestershire has been given the go-ahead to go out to consultation.
The Future of Acute Hospital Services in Worcestershire project has won approval from NHS England to progress to a formal assurance panel in July.
The ambitious scheme involves a number of changes to emergency care in the county, including taking the most seriously unwell patients to Worcestershire Royal Hospital and setting up a midwife-led maternity unit at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch.
Independent chairman of the Future of Acute Hospitals in Worcestershire programme board Jo Newton said a great deal of progress had been made over the past few months.
“Clinicians across the county have worked hard to produce robust clinical models which give us a blueprint for the future of hospital care in Worcestershire for many years to come,” she said.
The 12-week public consultation into the plans is scheduled to start in September and patients in South Warwickshire, Herefordshire, Solihull and Birmingham are expected to be included.
