Redditch Library could undergo transformation and house more services
10:10am Thursday 19th June 2014 in News
REDDITCH Library could undergo a transformation if proposals to incorporate other council services and local services on the second floor of its building go ahead.
The proposal would save approximately £55,000 per year, and would see a wider range of services all under one roof, but there are no plans to reduce the number of books or computers, adult learning or children's activities.
Lucy Hodgson, cabinet member with responsibility for localism and communities said: " Redditch Library will continue to offer the full range of books, adult learning courses, information and a wide range of adult and children's activities.
"Our aim is to ensure that the library can work with others to improve services for residents and keep the library vibrant and sustainable for the long term".
It is not anticipated that the library will be closed for long periods of time during the redevelopment works, however, there may be times when some areas of the library are unavailable. The county council will continue to work closely with the building contractors to ensure that any disruption is kept to a minimum and that customers are kept up-to-date with these changes.
Plans for the changes to the library will be displayed in the library from Monday, June 23 until Saturday, June 28 and customers will be able to leave their comments during normal library opening hours.
For anyone who wants to ask questions or discuss the plans, county councillors will be available on Tuesday, June 24 from 10am-noon, Wednesday, June 25 from 2-4pm and Thursday, June 26 from 5-7pm.
Feedback about the changes is welcome. Customers are invited to speak to the officers or by completing a 'Have Your Say' card, which will be available throughout the library.
Alternatively, customers can also send feedback via firstname.lastname@example.org or by clicking on the WCC Libraries and Leaning homepage of Worcestershire County Council website worcestershire.gov.uk/cms/library-services.aspx.
