A FUN day at Asda in Bromsgrove raising cash as well as awareness for charity has been hailed a huge success.

Bpositive, founded by former St. Augustine's pupil Jonjo Rooney, has been by selected by Asda as one of three local charities that have a community box at the front of the store.

Customers are urged to donate their green tokens, given to them at the end of their shopping, to the charity of their choice.

Mr Rooney, along with volunteers from Bpositive, helped customers with their bag packing as well as talk about the charity.

Mr Rooney, who battled acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in 2006, said that the day was a huge success.

"I was blown away, not only the generosity of the Asda customers donating their green tokens, but also how interested they were in hearing about Bpositive and what we do," he said.

Bpositive is a support network connecting patients, families and friends affected by acute leukaemia, started by the 30-year-old in 2013.

The aim of the charity is to provide support, information and access as well as promote the cause and case of patients with acute leukaemia.

Mr Rooney added: "There were people insisting on donating some money as well as their green tokens which was just fantastic to see. I’d personally like to thank all the customers who gave up their time to talk to us and donate their green tokens as well as the local volunteers who helped pack bags, hand out leaflets and help promote Bpositive.

"And of course special mentions must go to Dawn Baylis and the Asda Bromsgrove community support team for giving us the opportunity as well as Richard from Bromsgrove Print who generously provided the leaflets."
