A PAIR of new consultant urological surgeons have taken up posts at Redditch’s Alexandra Hospital.

Lieutenant Colonel Zaheer Shah and Vincent Koo are now working at the Alex, the county’s centre for urological services.

Lt Col Shah has served with the British Army for 23 years and has carried out a tour of Afghanistan as well as serving as a doctor with the Royal Amy Medical Corp.

He previously worked at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading.

Mr Koo qualified in 2000 and was awarded a doctorate in medicine from Queen’s University in Belfast in 2007.

He specialises in stone surgery and research.

Chief executive of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust Penny Venables said she was “delighted” to welcome the two new surgeons.

“Centralising urological surgery at the Alexandra Hospital has been a successful move, providing specialist care for patients,” she said.

“There are certainly exciting times ahead for this department.”

Urological surgery has been centralised at the Alex for more than a decade and treats at least 8,000 patients every year.
