A PEACEFUL protest is set to be held next week following ex-UKIP Redditch councillor David Small's alleged racist and homophobic Facebook comments.

Organised by the town's LGBT community the protest will take place from 6:15pm on Monday, June 9 outside Redditch Town Hall.

The newly elected Redditch councillor was at first suspended by UKIP after allegedly referring to African migrants as "scroungers" and referring to several gay celebrities, including Sir Elton John, as being perverts.

Days later he was expelled from the party.

Organisers of the protest are looking for as many people as possible to join in the demonstration.

Meanwhile, there have been numerous calls for Mr Small to stand down as councillor.
