ALCESTER is marking Dementia Awareness Week with displays of information and leaflets at the library and the medical centre to help people find out more about the condition.
The town is working toward becoming a Dementia Friendly Community, and already holds two ‘cafes’ a week, on Tuesday and Friday mornings at the Jubilee Centre for people living with dementia, as well as those caring for them.
Cafe founder Carole Zambonini, said: “The community has to prioritise and dementia is the number one priority in our community. Everyone will be touched by the condition.”
Warwickshire county councillor Mike Gittus is the dementia champion for the council. He added: “It important for us all to work together to support those living with dementia, remembering to offer all possible support to their carers.
“Every one of us will either have the condition, care for someone with the condition or be affected by a close friend or family member living with the condition.”
