Health body saves thousands by reducing carbon footprint

A WORCESTERSHIRE health organisation has saved thousands of pounds of taxpayer’s money by reducing its carbon footprint across the county.
Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust has been working to reduce its footprint since 2010 and last year saved an estimated £21,475 through a range of measures such as installing new meters and boilers at sites including at community hospitals in Evesham, Pershore and Malvern.
The trust’s emissions have reduced by almost 1,000 tonnes since 2010 and the organisation is putting measures in place to bring this down further such as installing more new boiler systems at a number of sites.
Speaking at a meeting of the trust’s board on Wednesday, May 14, finance director Robert Mackie said staff throughout the organisation had been working hard to deliver the savings.
“We’re not quite where we would like to be yet but we’ve got some very significant downward trends,” he said.
“We’re looking forward to delivering further gains.”
