A STUDENT from Bidford has raised over £1,300 for charity in memory of his aunt who passed away from bowel cancer.

Fraser McCaslin, 19, took part in the Shakespeare half marathon in Stratford last month in memory of his aunt Caroline, who passed away last December from bowel cancer, aged 54.

"Auntie Caz was an unbelievable woman, who, no matter what pain she was in, never ever complained," he said.

"She is a true inspiration for me and sadly I was there on the day she passed away with close family and friends. I want to raise as much awareness as I can about bowel cancer and raise as much money for this fantastic charity.’’

Mr Caslin raised the money for Beating Bowel Cancer and said he was honoured to support the charity.

"The charity runs a helpline for patients and their families, giving people crucial information and support,” he explained.

Sajedah Patel, regional fundraiser for Beating Bowel Cancer in the Midlands, added: "Fraser is an inspiration for all of us and I’m sure his aunt Caroline would be very proud of him.

"Only through the generous support of fundraisers like Fraser can we continue to help more patients and we’d like to thank him for all his hard work."

Each year more than 40,000 are diagnosed with bowel cancer, but if caught early, more than 90 per cent of cases can be treated successfully.
