THE driver of a parcel delivery van was taken to hospital after his vehicle crashed into the Co-op at Headless Cross, Redditch, following a collision yesterday afternoon, Tuesday, April 29.

Police are currently trying to trace a man who was driving the other vehicle involved, a silver coloured Audi TT, who left the damaged car at the scene in Evesham Road prior to officers arriving. He left with another man who was a passenger in the car.

Officers want to speak to both men and have appealed for information and witnesses to the collision.

It happened at around 2.05pm at the junction by the Co-op and led to a white Mercedes Sprinter van leaving the road and crashing into a wall at the side of the store. There is some damage to brickwork but the store has not been closed.

The van driver, a man in his 50s, was taken to the town’s Alexandra Hospital with minor injuries but not detained.

Police directed traffic around the scene but there were tailbacks until the damaged vehicles were removed at around 3.30pm.

PC Andy Cadwallader said: “We are still looking for the driver of the Audi, who we understand was hobbling as he left the scene and may have been injured. We also need to speak to the passenger who also left prior to our arrival.

“While some witnesses have already been spoken to I would urge anyone else who may have seen what happened or has any information that could help us to come forward and contact us at the earliest opportunity.”

PC Cadwallader can be contacted at Redditch Police Station on the non-emergency number 101, quoting the incident reference 330-S-290414.
