STRATFORD District Council has moved to reassure residents that they can still throw away kitchen waste in their grey household waste bins.

A statement released by the council today (April 24), read: "Householders may have noticed stickers on their wheelie bins giving the impression that kitchen waste can no longer be placed in your household waste (grey) bin. This is not the case.

"The council has not changed its household waste service and we continue to provide a weekly collection of food waste either in the grey bin or green bin.

"All of the kitchen waste that is put into the green bin is recycled and we would prefer residents to maximise the amount of waste that is recycled.

"Please put as much food waste as possible in the green bin. However, it must be underlined that the option to put food waste in the grey bin in alternate weeks remains and we have no plans to change our service."

It added that the council apologises unreservedly for any confusion caused.
